Queensland, Moreton Bay Artificial reef

November 18 • 2011

The Queensland Government has invested $2 million to establish six artificial reefs in Moreton Bay Marine Park, a project led by the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM). These reefs are strategically positioned to create exciting fishing opportunities for recreational anglers while ensuring the preservation of marine ecosystems.

PIONEERING
OFFSHORE ENDEAVORS

In a significant achievement, Haejoo Group accomplished Australia’s pioneering offshore artificial reef initiative in August 2011. Through this endeavor, the group showcased its exceptional prowess in project management, spanning the entire spectrum from intricate design conceptualization to impeccable construction and seamless deployment. This milestone was marked by the establishment of purpose-built artificial reefs across the expanse of Moreton Bay Marine Park, encompassing vital sites including Wild Banks, North Moreton, and South Stradbroke reefs.

FISH CAVE & FISH BOX

At the heart of this accomplishment lies Haejoo Group’s proprietary innovations, notably the ingenious steel mega structure known as the “Fish Cave.” This architectural marvel, a testament to engineering innovation, has not only captured the imagination of marine enthusiasts but has also contributed significantly to the enrichment of marine habitats. Moreover, Haejoo Group’s distinguished reputation extends globally due to the creation of the immense reinforced concrete marvel, christened the “Fish Box.”

Internationally recognized, this colossal structure stands as one of the largest man-made reefs ever crafted, a feat that underscores the group’s commitment to pioneering advancements in marine conservation and recreation.

MODULE INFORMATION

THE FISH CAVE – Internationally proven ‘Fish Cave’ design was modified and purpose-built to primarily target pelagic fish and suit the local conditions at the Wild Banks site offshore.

Three units were fabricated from steel and stand 11m tall, 11m wide and weigh 14.4T.

THE FISH BOX – A ‘Fish Box ‘ is a 4m3, 17T structure with unique cross braces made from reinforced concrete. The innovative design is to promote upwelling and shelter for fish habitats around deployed areas.

25 units were constructed to create North Moreton Artificial Reef and another 20 were fabricated to create the South Stradbroke site to enhance recreational fishing around the bay.

HaejooX Group Sets New Standards

Through this pioneering offshore artificial reef project, Haejoo Group has not only redefined possibilities in marine habitat augmentation but has also positioned itself as a paragon of expertise and innovation in the realm of purpose-built reef construction.
