NSW Artifical reef

October of 2011 marked a pivotal moment as the Haejoo Group, in a harmonious collaboration with Waterway Constructions, achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully completing the construction and deployment of the New South Wales (NSW) offshore artificial reef project. This joint venture was driven by a shared vision to enhance recreational fishing opportunities in the region, materializing as New South Wales’ inaugural offshore artificial reef.

FILLING THE GAP

Nestled approximately 1.2 kilometers to the east of the iconic ‘The Gap,’ a revered landmark known as South Head, this visionary project found its home beneath the waters at a depth of 38 meters. The strategic positioning was meticulously chosen to invigorate marine habitats, fostering a thriving ecosystem for a diverse spectrum of marine life.

AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST ARTIFICIAL STRUCTURE

Funds from the Recreational Fishing Trusts, under the stewardship of the NSW Department of Primary Industries, facilitated the design and construction of this pioneering reef. Notably, this offshore marvel claims the distinction of being the largest purpose-built individual artificial structure ever deployed within the country. Boasting a weight exceeding 40 tonnes, a towering height of 12 meters at its zenith, and a reef volume that exceeds 700 cubic meters, this structure stands as a testament to engineering ingenuity and ecological stewardship.

BUILT TO WITHSTAND THE FORMIDDABLE NSW COAST

Its remarkable design extends beyond its impressive physical attributes, as it’s engineered to withstand the formidable coastal conditions characteristic of New South Wales. This resilience is fortified by its durability, intended to endure for a minimum of three decades. The NSW offshore artificial reef project exemplifies a harmonious interplay between innovation, conservation, and recreation, underscoring the potential of collaborative efforts to create enduring positive impacts on marine ecosystems and the broader community.
